A fluidised bed filter comprises a drying pan (10), and a filter assembly (14) having a membrane (15) over the pan (10), and a plurality of apertures (16) in the membrane. A filter bag (17) is secured to each aperture (16) by means of a clamping ring (21) attached to the rim of the respective aperture (16), and cooperating with a clamping band (20) within the cuff of the bag (17). The material of the bag is clamped between the ring (21) and the band (20). The ring (21) is covered in a cloth strip (28), which is folded over to produce a flap, which is stitched between the layers of a double fabric forming the membrane (15). The band (20) is retained in a tunnel formed by a fold in a double fabric forming the filter bag (17) by stitching (26).
